dc.description.abstract | Among the used and proven technologies for the consolidation of historical materials are mainly nanosuspensions containing nanoparticles of calcium hydroxide and nanomateri-als based on magnesium and barium hydroxide, respectively. sulphates (Chelazzi, 2012, Baglioni, 2012). In general, the role of the strenghtening material is to stabilize the damaged plaster system or to replace or, to add the “extruded” original binder material by material with ideally identical properties. Calcium hydroxide nanosuspension is cured, as with traditional historical material, where calcium hydroxide reacts with atmospheric carbon dioxide to form calcium carbonate. Due to the deposition of calcium carbonate in the incoherent material, the bonds are reinforced and strengthened. Compared to lime materials in macroscopic sizes, lime nanoparticles have exceptional properties that enhance the strength of reinforcement. The undisputed advantage of consolidating plasters with “nanolime” is also the low number of impregnation cycles, when after several applications of nanosuspension the strenghtening of the degraded material occurs. © 2019 Taylor & Francis Group, London. | en |
